Tai Chi Qigong Meditation |

Arch of the foot = palm of the hand. |
Qigong, breathing exercises, qi energy flow... had all been developing for hundreds of years before the Daoists started construction of their Wudang Temple.
"Whether you call it Buddhist Breathing or Daoist Qigong," explains Buddha Zhen, "It is mastering the energy already flowing within you. First I make you aware of it. Second I show you how to focus on it. Third i teach students how to enhance it. However, in the fourth stage when you can move and manipulate your energy -- that's where the magic and the healing come into play."
Although you may need to be an Intermediate Level or Advanced Tai Chi practitioner to make use of many of these technigues, follow along and do your best. Beginners allowed.

Tai Chi Staff |

Luohan Staff = Guardian of Heaven |
Traditional Chen Taijiquan includes staff, spear and sword.
"Wood is my favorite Tai Chi weapon," explains Buddha Zhen. "Metal sucks my energy out -- with the exception of aluminum, but wood is easier to control or use while manifesting qi "chi" energy."
"When I broke my arm last year, I had planned to build it back up with my double broadswords, (shuang dao, or cern do). But it was my staff class that rebuilt my shoulder. It somehow has caught up and surpassed my left arm in strength again."
"I enjoy doing qigong when I'm with my staffs, spear, or wooden swords. Let me show you some of my qi energy discoveries."

Combat Taiji |

Victory over a taller and stronger opponent. |
When Yang Chen Fu stole the Chen Style Taijiquan, he proved it's value by beating up every prize fighter in his village.
Two of my Taijiquan Masters made me promise, as one said, "Don't turn this into yoga Tai Chi."
That was twenty five years ago and Buddha Zhen has kept his promise by expanding the Tai Chi instruction to include 57 required Qin Na techniques and that each student mush demonstrate three self-defense moves for each of the sixteen Tai Chi sections.
Several of Buddha Zhen's students have claimed that Tai Chi moves saved their lives in dangerous confrontations.

Judging Seminar - FREE |

Score by balance, focus, technique, attitude, character, personality, power, efficiency, effectiveness, and purpose. Go on. Do it! |
These mock tournaments are fun and daring as students get to test their Forms and performance abilities.
What is even more important is that the judges learn the rules of Shaolin Chi Mantis and learn how to improve their judging skills before they make mistakes that could diminish a competition.
"Judging is much more difficult that performing," states Buddha Zhen. "Sure, I'm tense and spending extra time stretching and warming up and practicing before a competition, but then, once you've performed -- it's over! Whew! But not for the judges. They have to put every ounce of focus and concentration into EVERY competitor's performance -- and then do it again for a whole new set of competitors. Now that's hard work!"

SCM & TCY Summer
Push Hands Tournament |

Payback is a push. |
After several years of attending, competing, and judging in many statewide Karate tournaments of the nineties, Buddha Zhen decided to promote and sponsor his own "Kung Fu Only" tournaments, so that Kung Fu stylists would be more enthusiastic to compete and display their talents.
Push Hands however, became an event that Buddha Zhen encouraged the Utah Karate schools to attend. So, with the only qualification being to attend one of Buddha Zhen's Push Hands Workshops, the Shaolin Chi Mantis push hands tournaments grew even more.
This SUMMER PUSH HANDS TOURNAMENT was the first official Push Hands Tournament of Shaolin Chi Mantis and is still held each year wherever Buddha Zhen is residing.
The winners of this Summer Push Hands Tournament are 'seeded' for the upcoming SCM & TCY California Push Hands Championship held each September.

Push Hands Championship
|

The original translation for "Karate" was "Chinese Hand," referring to the power and versatility of the open hand instead of a fist. Tai Chi Pushing Hands teaches students to win physical battles without pummeling or breaking their knuckles. |
The First, Second, and Third Place winners of the Summer Push Hands Tournament are the 'seeded' champions of this tournament.
Until the the third, seccond, and first place competitions are held in each division, the Summer Tournament champions will be able to wait until it is time to "defend their title."
Shaolin Chi Mantis and Tai Chi Youth tournaments are STATIONARY PUSH HANDS competitions. A person loses by lifting one foot off the ground. A hand touching the ground also is a loss.
Winning is based on balance, Tai Chi skills, and flexibility. Strategy, deception, and speed are also beneficial. Come to our Push Hands Seminars to learn all the good band and dirty tricks of Push Hands.

Talk to the foot. |
After starting his Push Hands tournaments, Buddha Zhen, received funding from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Utah Arts Council, and many other Salt Lake City donors, to launch the first KUNG FU TOURNAMENTS ever held in Utah.
Buddha Zhen also sought to bring more harmony and friendship between the half dozen Kung Fu schools in Utah by encouraging them to perform exhibitions of their school styles at these events.
Contact Buddha Zhen or the SCM Tournament Director for details on your Kung Fu school performing at our annual tournament.
