This class is structured into three semesters of 4-months equalling one year.
The first semester, the student learns all the basic moves, jumps, and concepts of the staff. This preparation makes it easier and safer to teach the difficult and complex traditional Staff Forms of Shaolin Kung Fu.
The second semester teaches both sides of the 2-man choreographed combat Form, "Fire & Water," made popular by its' use in the opening credits of the TV show, Kung Fu, starring David Carradine.

The SHAOLIN KUNG FU KIDS Programs were created by Buddha Zhen in 1993. While teaching his SHAOLIN KIDS classes, Buddha Zhen also taught in several elementary schools and studied many physical education manuals from the Utah school boards, athletic associations, and books by experienced Olympic traininers and coaches. After several years of experimenting with different sports and tug-of-war games that he altered into pseudo Kung Fu training competitions, the TAI CHI KIDS PROGRAM was developed with a balance of Tai Chi and Kung Fu instruction.
"My life has been blessed," blinks Buddha Zhen. "Since 1990 I have been a Mr. Mom, so I was able to devote every minute of the day that I wasn't changing diapers to Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Overwhelmed with my task of recreating Shaolin Kung Fu and Chinese Chan Buddhism back together / while creating a Belt Rank System that would create more consistency and fairness in the Karate tournaments for Kung Fu competitors / rewriting the rules for Push Hands / and training my own kids the entire time... I may have spent that decade of 1990 to 2000 as a Kung Fu Professor accomplishing more than most people can possibly attain in a lifetime of part-time practice and study. I am blessed."
Despite the fact his daughter, Zhen Ming-Mou, had been winning tournaments and performing her traditional Shaolin Sabre Form, "Jade Ring Dao," since she was six years old, Buddha Zhen removed the weaponry from the kids programs.
"I had a battle with the school boards to get my sword and staff programs in my adult continuing education programs. I had to argue that their European Fencing Classes would have to be removed if they denied my 'Chinese Fencing Classes'." Buddha Zhen smiles,"I feel very strongly that ChineseKung Fu weaponry is beneficial to anyone who is ready to learn it. The weapons are musicial instruments that require entire body movements to perform. This larger body movements enlarge the beliefs and perspectives of the disciple. Youths of outstanding abiity are always welcome in my Shaolin Chi Mantis Traditional Buddhist Gongfu classes to learn staff, sword and spear."
The Tai Chi Youth program is the entire Beginner Program of Shaolin Chi Mantis stretched out over three years. So there is a balance of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu in each weeks' lessons.
The first semesters of Tai Chi Youth also utilize some of the rigorous Southern Style Kung Fu that Buddha Zhen studied with Shifu Douglas Wong of the White Lotus Gungfu School and exercises from the Daoist Center of Los Angeles.
Combined with group readings of traditional Buddhist Dharma and Daoist principles, the students are also required to know something about every major religion in the world to pass their Belt Tests.
The Muslim 12 Tantui Kung Fu exercises are included in the first 12 months of training. These were the Kung Fu basics of Bruce Lee and the Beginner Level training of the Chinese National WuShu Team, as taught also by the Jing Mo and Chin Wu Associations, which has also certified Buddha Zhen to adverise himself as a Jing-Mo Academy.
The Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form becomes the nucleus of the 3-year curriculum as students learn to become fit and and healthy in both body and mind.
