Shaolin Zen |

Shaolin Zen is a way of life. The trademark slogan of Shaolin Zen is: "Do Nothing For A Reason™" Shaolin Zen is a religion. Our founder, Buddha Zhen Shen-Lang, began teaching a harmonious blend of Shaolin Gongfu, Yang Taijiquan, and Northern Praying mantis in 1984. Zen Buddhism was taught along with the Gongfu, maintaining a spiritual balance as it had been passed from Buddhist Monk to Buddhist Monk at the Shaolin Temple in Northern China. In 1996 Buddha Zhen created the nonprofit education organization, Tai Chi Youth. This nondenominational Gongfu system did not include much of the traditional wisdom and spirituality taught in Shaolin Chi Mantis classes. Yet, Chinese Buddhism, or at least the spiritual concepts of Zen were sought by many students who lacked the determination to be members of Shaolin Chi Mantis Traditional Buddhist Gongfu. In 1997 Buddha Zhen created Shaolin Zen, to provide the Zen wisdom to a larger public and the students of Tai Chi Youth. In November, 1997, Buddha Zhen was ordained as Patriarch of Shaolin Zen and was presented a Purple Sash designating this title. SHAOLIN ZEN was a magazine from 1992 to 1999. Sections of the 8-page newsletter included school and tournament information. The second page was devoted to spiritual wisdom from Buddha Zhen. Shaolin Zen does not require you give up your current religion. As a Buddhist, you can belong to other religions. However, some religions may not want you to join Shaolin Zen. The basic concepts of Shaolin Zen include:

Buddhist Journey |
American Zen |

It started with 4 boys from San Diego, living together in Venice, California. They boarded up the windows and turned the living room into a rehearsal room. As the Mexican neighbors gathered around each night with popcorn and beer, American Zen blasted their psychedelic folk rock five nights a week from 7 to 9PM. Located just a few houses away from the V-13 headquarters, this band of artists molded their leader, The Hippy Coyote, into the most prolific songwriter since The Beatles, Donovan and The Doors combined. With over 400 songs to his credit, Coyote is frustrated at not being able to release an album every month. Then, after several years of diligently watching the KUNG FU tv series starring David Carradine, this band of wave lovers took up the challenge by me, their producer, to pursue Shaolin Kung Fu, Zen Buddhism, and life: as a musical Buddhist Journey. Telling his story, with music, photography, and poetry, Coyote etches a new legend into fabric of spiritual exploration. Despite his high I.Q., he must face and deal with all the problems we all suffer with, from money to love to how to live his life. Let's see what he discovers and learns from his mistakes and his accomplishments.

I don't know if we were the first to launch a Buddhist Temple on the internet, but we are still headed towards that goal. We may be far from where we plan or what we have envisioned, but that's Buddhism for your -- the unending life path of exploration, discovery, and awe. You'll see. Our goal is to be more than factual and informative. We plan to be FUN and INNOVATIVE. We see a website we can visit, like a church, alone, or in a temple full of people... you will be in control of... well -- you'll see. We are limited mostly by funding. Want to help? Your donations are very appreciated.

Sit and get your Zen? Doesn't work. They'll take your money and tell you to sit and think of nothing. Waste of your time, waste of your money. Zen Buddhism was created by Bodhidharma who created exercises for the lazy Buddhist monks of the Shaolin Temple. These first exercises are the "18 Hands of Luohan." How many Japanese Zen schools even try to recreate these exercises? These got larger and longer and are now athlete grooming exercises. The original exercises were breathing exercises, Qigong, or energy flow exercises, more like Tai Chi than Shaolin Kung Fu. So, Buddha Zhen will go back closer to the basics and recreate a workshop based upon the initial concepts of Zen Buddhism and how to combine it with breathing exercises to enable YOU to find your Zen the way that Bodhidharma intended. Want some REAL ZEN? Visit our bootcamp and discover what Zen Buddhism originally discovered: a healthy mind + a healthy body = Zen.
